Mercury moves out of the retrograde and back into forward motion, although we will feel the hangover of it until Thanksgiving Day. With the Moon in Pisces for a couple of days, it won't be surprising if we have experience another possible effect of these weeks with the retrograde......a spell of melancholy. As the retrograde requires us to examine the past, sooner or later we come across good times and beautiful moments, situations and people and feelings and opportunities that are no longer in our present lives. It surprised me to realize in this one that I was still grieving for parts of my past...of my youth....of long ago days and the "golden age" of my years here in this life. I wasn't focused on unresolved issues or unforgiven hurts as much as I was yearning for the things that were magical and mystical and special...and for the way I used to feel back then. As we leave the retrograde behind us and the past along with it, we need to hold on to the beauty that once was and no longer is, and carry it in our hearts instead of the grieving for it.....fueling our ability to recreate more of that beauty now and in our futures.

And so, the Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio continues, and the line between the past and the present blurs. Dear friends from long ago, somehow lost to the busy demands of your everyday life, reappear -- call from out of nowhere to meet for a coffee. Long-buried feelings, never completely resolved and put to rest, resurface for review and re-examination. Broken things, left on the shelf to gather dust, jump into our line of vision for repair. Yes, there is chaos and confusion....too many trucks blowing through red lights and almost pulling us into a crash....so many appointments cancelled and rescheduled and cancelled again....that low-level hum of irritation and frustration....and the computer and telephone glitches that can make a normal day a torrent of delay and miscommunication. But hopefully you are also experiencing some of the benefits of the Retrograde, too --- things slow down a bit for some of us, even if we are forced to --- and Mercury digs into the bag of our lives to pluck out some gems from the past -- sweet moments and beloved people that may have been left on the side of the road as we traveled, so focused and so driven by circumstance. Today, try to turn your attention to the blessings that the Retrograde brings us. I hope you find many of them.
The New Moon in Scorpio arrives tomorrow along with a eclipse to add energy to its already powerful influence. We have now been traveling with Saturn in Scorpio for a year. Many things have died and been put away. Mercury is Retrograde now in Scorpio, asking us to review that process and look at what else still needs to be resolved and released. The Vulture cleans up the debris of the past, clearing space for the Dove. Scorpio rules the lowest of the low and the highest of the high. It's time to turn loose of the predatory, revengeful nature of old Scorpio and clear space for the transcendent transformations it creates instead. Purging ourselves of obsession, control, manipulation, paranoia and power games allows us to move higher into a state of compassion, understanding, intimacy, and love. Sort through your feelings carefully, searching for the dividing line between present moment, appropriate emotional responses and old, ingrained, karmic patterns. Be aware of the difference between your own feelings and those you may be absorbing and carrying from others around you. Pay special attention to your dreams now and interpret the synchronistic symbols around you, knowing that past life information is always strong and visible during the Mercury Retrograde -- especially in Scorpio. Let the past be the past, be grateful to the Vulture for taking away that which was no longer useful or needed, and soar with the Dove as she tries to teach us how rising above it all can feel.
The Moon is in Libra today, moving on from the New Moon in Virgo on Thursday. Our energy arc from New Moon to Full Moon this month is from Virgo to culmination in Pisces. This is a deep and powerful story and has caused me to want to voice my re-examination of Virgo. Traditionally, Virgo has been assigned rulership by Mercury, an air planet whose influence has been a terrible misdirect, in my opinion. Due to the desperate desire to disempower women for centuries on end, we have been misled in our understanding of Virgo....the sign of the Divine Feminine. This has become a bit of a soapbox for me. I remember in older astrology books how there would be a large chapter explaining each sign, but when you got to Virgo, you would find a few little paragraphs talking about secretaries and accountants, details and nitpicking, organization skills and overly-critical attitudes. I have a big surprise for you today. The Virgo-Pisces seesaw represents the relationship between Mother Mary and Jesus. Virgo is Goddess, Gaia, Mother Earth in all her diversity, beauty, and endless creation. She is the Divine Vehicle through which invisible, intangible, ethereal energy takes on physical form on this planet. I also take issue with the traditional assignment that Virgo is a "barren" sign. What? How can the sign responsible for birth at the highest level be barren? Today, I'd like for you to begin reframing your view of Virgo and begin to investigate your own process of creation. What started on Thursday will peak in strength on the 19th, when something divine and invisible can take concrete form in your life. We have the chance this month to transform our understanding of the process by which we are co-creating our realities with our Souls. And with Saturn in Scorpio, right now it's a-transformation-a-day, folks. May as well get on the train and invite change willingly. And honor your Mother as you go. You might do well to ask for her Divine Guidance in all that you are creating. Today and tomorrow, with the Moon in Libra, the focus will be on your relationships. What are you creating there? What does your Soul say you should be learning from them? The Moon is in Leo today just in time for the holiday. Leo is the sign that actually rules holidays, vacations, games and fun. She rushes up to Saturn, standing watch as always over the crashing waterfall. "We're having a party!!!" She waits. No response. "Come on! You've been standing guard there for what seems like forever! When WAS the last time you took a day off?" Saturn turns his head slowly and glares at her and grumbles, "How is taking a day off going to change anything?" "Aaaahhh," she grins, "I thought you'd never ask. I complement you on your focus, your commitment, your dedication, your relentless effort. But I know how you get. I'd like to see you step back from the edge of this cliff for a little while so you don't tilt over into rigidity and harshness, overdriving the system with no rest, and the damaging extremism that comes from refusing to balance the other important areas of life. You know I'm right......so chill out and come with me for a while. I promise you'll feel better after a break - more focused, more energetic, more concentrated. And for God's sake, take off that big black cloak.....a little sunlight wouldn't hurt you about now either!" Today is a good day to do just that.....a whole lot of nothing. Enjoy yourself, rest, refresh......and for God's sake, take off that big black cloak......... The Moon will be Full in Aquarius again this month, bringing a strong focus to the energy of this new age we have entered. It's a good time to take a look at the last month from that viewpoint to see how you are doing with integrating the new behaviours, concepts, perspectives, and values of Aquarius in your life and in yourself. How well do you embrace diversity? How willing are you to work for equality? How humanitarian are you? How well do you contribute your individual talents and skills to a group for a common cause? What organizations do you support with your time, energy, or money? How rational are you -- and let's not forget that Jung taught us the true definition of rationality -- the perfect blend of thought and feeling....not exactly the way we understand the word here in the Western culture. Tuesday night, CDT, the Full Blue Moon brings us the opportunity to celebrate freedom and uniqueness. How free are you? The Sagittarius Moon of the last two days has given way to Capricorn this morning, and the morning news informs us that a federal judge has blocked a slaughter auction of 500 wild horses from a roundup. Sagittarius rules horses, the wilderness they love and thrive in, as well as the wildish, untamed landscapes within our own psyches. Freedom and movement, expansion, and connection with the Divine through the magnificence of Nature are Sagittarian experiences. By juxtaposition, Capricorn rules the structures, rules, laws, and institutions where we find government and judges. When we fail to preserve the wilderness outside of us, we fail to protect the wild and unfettered parts of ourselves. Without sharp instincts kept intact, we are naïve and easy prey. Without intuition and self-awareness, we are quickly and deftly caged. Without wide and untouched inner pastures and the bliss of creative inspiration, we deafen and deaden to our own lives. Pluto in Capricorn is working even now to transform the major institutions and structures that we have created to give shape and limitation to our world. May that transformation lend itself to support forour need and our ability to run free. The Moon continues in Scorpio today and tomorrow, walking hand in hand with Saturn, the great masculine and the great feminine together. As we all know, this kind of closeness can lend itself to many extremes. Passionate is the language they speak to each other and the fulfillment of their desires the subject matter. Think of their union as the lover who asks, "What do you want? What do you desire the most?", for this truly is the question put before us. We've all heard the saying, "If God called you this afternoon and said you could have anything you want....anything at all....would you know what to say?" What would your life look like if you had the resources at hand to create what you truly, passionately, perhaps madly, desire? Do you have those resources? Do you know how to get them? Do you know how to build the castle of your life? What could your life be if all that is unimportant, all that is unnecessary, all that is meaningless, all that is superficial, all that is obsolete in you suddenly disappeared? These two lovers, Saturn and the Moon, Strength and Softness, sneak off into the forest to dream the answers to these questions. Somewhere in your life, if you listen, you can hear them whispering to each other as they explore and solve the greatest mysteries of all. We start the day with the Moon in Libra and end it with the Moon in Scorpio, a transition from the airy expressions of the mind and speech to the deeper pools of desire and feelings. Right now, with Saturn in Scorpio, these days each month when the Moon joins him on the cliff overlooking the raging falls are so important. From tomorrow evening and into Thursday morning, emotional clues can be mined and understood as markers for the serious work of the Soul still going on during the 2 1/2 year cycle. Pay attention to your feelings for the next few days...watch what triggers them, what you do with them, how much power they have over you, how you utilize or transform them. Remember that Pluto (ruler of Scorpio) is always peering into us looking for what needs to go into the trash bin. If Libra isn't healthy, it leads us easily into a black-and-white viewpoint.....a real set-up for moving straight into the extremism of Scorpio. Try to start the day with a conscious sense of emotional balance and cool-headed perspective. And watch to see what happens then in the second half of the day. And don't forget to check in with your Inner Child, making sure to provide acknowledgement and safety. That's one of the most vital points of balance you can create. The Moon went into Scorpio this morning and resumed her throne next to Saturn overlooking the raging tumult of water. "Have they made any headway?", she asked him. "They must do it," he replies. "The time is now. Those who do not jump of their own accord will be thrown in." Today and tomorrow present us with a powerful opportunity to work consciously on the challenges of emotional communication that have been.......brought to you byyyyyyyyy.....Mercury Retrograde in Cancer, the New Moon in Cancer, Jupiter in Cancer, Mars in Cancer........is there a message here? Whatever issues have come up for you these last few weeks are certainly not going to be diminished by the added influence of Jupiter....who loves to "blow things up real good" and Mars, the gas tank of adrenaline of the zodiac. We are not exactly being asked nicely if we would like to work on our feelings. And with Scorpio, there's always a lovely bit of "do it or else" hanging in the background. If this leaves you less than clear about what to do, start at the beginning.....Mad, Sad, Glad, Scared, Ashamed. Take all the other words you use to describe how you are feeling and distill them down into one of the Big 5. Pay attention, sort things out, get to the source of your emotion. Claim responsibility for what you are feeling...your feelings are yours. Don't like what you're feeling? Investigate, understand. Change how you think. But above all.....pay attention. What's going on inside you? And what do you choose to let out? |
